In June 1974 element 106 was identified at the Joint Research institute in Russia. In September 1974, it was identified by Berkeley and  Lawrence Livermore Laboratories. Elements 104 through 109 have systematic names. All these elements were prepared by bombarding uranium nuclei or other atoms with atomic particles.
